We have been learning how to make observations from looking at ourselves using a mirror to see our facial features and then sketch our portraits and add our features correctly.
We are a New entrant and Year 1 class in Ohaeawai, Northland, New Zealand. Our Class is called Team Maunga Iti and our Teacher is Mrs Ritchie. We have 15 children in our class.

America's Cup at Ohaeawai School
I hope everyone was able to watch the America's Cup race yesterday. Team Maunga Iti was very fortunate to witness the race firsthand as well. We had our very own America’s cup in our class yesterday. The children had to make their own boats using polystyrene, wooden skewers, and paper for the sails. Then in our swimming time, a crowd from Team Maunga drifted into the pool area to watch the Ohaeawai Cup. The race was very exciting, we had a couple of capsizes but our winner was the one and only Team New Zealand.

Making Music
Today our class talked about different instruments. They then had time to experiment with a range of percussion instruments to find what sounds they made.
The children were given tins, cardboard tubes, straws, and paper to create their own instruments. They talk with each other, problem solved and created their very own instrument. They spent time making music with the class.
