When we were watching "America's Cup" it was the ideal time to look at what objects float and sinks.
We read this poem and then the children took a piece of plasticine to see what would happen.
Floating
I flattened out my plasticine
and set it in the tank.
And do you know the cheeky thing
turned round and slowly sank.
But when I took it out again
and shaped it like a boat.
It wasn’t cheeky any more
For it began to float
Albert Crawford
The children were able to see what happens when a piece of plasticine is put into water. They tried to see how they could shape the plasticine to allow it to float. This took them a while to work out the best shape to use and they had to be very careful how they put the shape into the water.
They also found objects around the class and they had to predict what would float or sink and say why to their partners before they put them in the water.
